8/26

Follow-up:  Finish your story about "Kristallnacht"
1.  Create a character from Nazi Germany
2.  Research Kristallnacht and what it would have been like for your character
3.  Write a 1-page story describing your character's experience

Tips:  Structure your story around the following 3 questions.
--What does your character want?
--What's in your character's way?
--How does your character get what he/she wants?

Example:
What does my character want?
One story might be about a Jewish shopkeeper who wants to keep his shop safe during Kristallnacht.
What's in my character's way?
A band of Gestapo policeman are in his way of getting what the shopkeeper wants, because they are trying to loot his store.
How does my character get what he want?
He does his best to protect his store by trying to reason with them, but ultimately his store is destroyed.  However he saves the Torah that he kept in the back of the shop and the story ends with him running away with the Torah safely in his arms.

Review:
--Share our final wall-folder and wrap-up conversation on some principles of PBL (multiple drafts, specific feedback, beautiful work, and flow)

--Intro to sociology project, begin by examining the question, "Why do people do bad things?"  Brainstorm all the possible reasons and share with table.

--Watch and take notes on this film about the Hitler Youth :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVUAIPMsZ60
--Discuss the ways in which the Hitler Youth were convinced that they were doing the right thing by following Hitler.   How can education become a tool for propaganda and brainwashing?

--Move into story-writing time.
